When You took that first step into human skin, confining yourself to the darkness of a womb created by Your hands, You already knew what awaited You.
You knew Your worldly welcome would be sparse, and the scoffing of Your divinity would accompany You at every turn.
You knew the hearts of men would be hardened and set on destroying Your earthly temple.
You knew You would absorb the sin and sorrow of every heart to beat upon this earth, from first to last.
You already knew.
And still, You came.
You knew that crossbeams were waiting to pin the very hands that cradled the universe, nails set to pierce the feet that walked through galaxies long before men ever looked heavenward.
You knew suffering was Your earthly destiny, but you were resolute to embrace it for every soul that would believe.
And You already knew that I would be one of them.
As You hung on Calvary’s cross, You saw me standing in its shadow, my fate hanging in the realm of doubt versus belief. And Your presence came, permeating time and space to wrap me in Your truth.
I sensed You there — when I first answered “yes” to the invitation of Your kingdom in me. As a young girl, I could barely contain my feet from running toward the makeshift altar in the center of a local high school football field. All I wanted at that moment was You, Jesus. I felt Your Spirit washing over me with forgiveness and joy with such force it made me want to burst and shout Your name at the top of my lungs. “Jesus, I believe, and I love You!”
In that first breath of my salvation, You already knew every possibility, every turn, every path stretching before me. You knew I would doubt my faith and wrestle with righteousness and grace alongside the sin that so easily entangles me.
You already knew other things would vie for Your place in my life, that I would not always be so quick to rush to Your altar.
And still, You remained.
It has been many years of journeying with You now. Many triumphs and losses have come and gone as the pages of my life turn one after the other, inviting me into new chapters where You have already walked in preparation for me. Your Spirit breath rustles each turning as Your hand continues to pen words of truth and value upon my soul.
And when I come to the last word in this fleeting human story, my faith rests in Your timeless truth, skipping through centuries to bring freedom yet again.
“It is finished.”
And then, my new and better life will begin.
Where You already are waiting to welcome me home.

This is a really beautiful post. I love that he already knew it all and yet he still chose to come and die for us. Visiting from FMF.

Oh, nicely written.
A good reminder that God did indeed know all that would happen (as did his beloved boy).
and yet he came
and still so often we forget
or don’t realize what it truly means.

Beautiful post, Barbara. It makes you realise He doesn’t miss anything in our lives, because He already knew. Thanks for the powerful reminder. Kath, visiting from FMF #2 this week.
