Water turns to wine.
Fevers vanish at the touch of His hand.
Leprosy disappears.
Paralytics walk.
Demons flee.
Dead men live again.
Barren wombs give birth.
Stormy tempests grow still.
A meal for one becomes a feast for the masses.
The sins of the world, obliterated by Divine Love sacrificed on a cross.
A sealed tomb emptied of the One who overcomes death.
Is anything too hard for Him?
Jesus does the impossible and makes it look easy.
And in response to His miraculous presence, He issues a simple invitation:
Repent, believe, and follow Me.
It seems pretty straightforward. Nothing overcomplicated about that.
You’d think I could easily follow after One so loving and powerful.
Instead, I make things way more complex than is warranted in this love relationship with my Savior. I add stipulations that were unintended. And ignore simple truths that are oh, so real.
Knowing He is a God of the impossible, you’d think I’d easily surrender my will into His keeping.
Loving others as He loves me.
Giving freely instead of protecting my own interests.
Reaching for spiritual fulfillment before grasping for shiny placebos.
Blessing others instead of retaliating with selfish motives.
Walking steadfastly toward the goal of heaven without being sidetracked by the lure of this world.
This walk of faith is not as easy for me as I’d like.
So I kneel before the Cross yet again.
And ask for mercy to fall anew.
“Lord, I believe; help my unbelief.”
And Jesus reaches out once more and wraps me in His grace and forgiveness.
So easily.

He’s got salvation in His hand
if you believe it’s true
and bring yourself to understand
that it’s offered, just for you
to take with bright and merry heart
in knowing that He’ll save
you and keep you ever apart
from the yawning grave.
Accepting Him is all to win;
there is nothing to lose
except your soul-destroying sin,
so which, then, will you choose?
A joyous bright eternity,
or aeons of hell’s misery?

Such a beautiful reminder for all of us. Grace freely offered – and yet we can make it so complicated to receive! Oh, I am so grateful for His tender affection and fresh mercies every morning!!

I don’t think our relationship with Christ was meant to be easy. We have a choice as to whether or not to have a relationship with Him, and relationships are not easy. They require time and work, and EFFORT, which is not always easy to give. Yes, Jesus made it look easy, but I imagine that it wasn’t, especially His walk to the cross, yet He chose it anyway, despite it being difficult.

It is no longer I that live but Christ who lives in me and that is what makes faith easy!

I by no means want to insinuate that Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross was an easy thing. I am humbled by the significance of everything He gave up for me to call me His own. In typing this blog so quickly, I was mostly reflecting on the miracles He performed with seeming ease. I do not want to presume that Calvary was not a sacrifice for Jesus. His prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane alludes to intense physical suffering and relinquishing His will to His Father.
I was mostly focusing on the fact that He is the God of the impossible who created and sustains all things and loves us with a pure and perfect love. There is nothing too difficult for Him, and therein lies my hope.
“Knowing He is a God of the impossible, you’d think I’d easily surrender my will into His keeping.”
If I reflect on God’s character and faithfulness, it should not be a hard choice for me to follow Him. Thankfully, it is His Spirit that draws me to Himself and continues this work of redemption in me. And it is only through His power that I can choose to walk in faith and align my life to follow His commands. For that, I am forever grateful. He has given me the easy part in this relationship. 🙂
